Write This Down - Write This Down

This is a spastic record in that each song has a completely different sound, tempo, and feel. This band sounds like several great bands all wrapped up into one, (old) Brandnew, (old) Taking Back Sunday, Comeback Kid, (old) Used, and The Receiving End of the Siren.

This record dynamics are so mixed up. You have no idea where the next song will take you. 34 minutes of not stop surprises. Their lyrics are straight forward and very understandable. Their are no poetic secrets here. After several spins this has become a fun album for me.

Volcano Choir

This is a super group of many folk artist including Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Its a mix of Experimental Folk, Atmospheric, and a little Rock. Great for night drives, or chillin at the beach.

The Classic Crime

This album still has the same sound they've had since their first album, but more professional and fuller. I love the vocals on this time around, the range is so much more than we've heard before and its not over done, with some gang vocals thrown in. If you like any TCC record then you will like this one the best!

Secret and Whispers

I really like this album, but it sounds like its Saosin, if you can handle that, then give this record a spin.

Death Vessel

I found this band because I'm a huge Sigur Ros fan, and Jonsi the lead singer is going on his first solo tour. He picked Death Vessel to open up for him on tour. I have never heard of them, so I got it, and I love it. Its beautiful music, with surprises thrown in the background. If you like Sigur Ros, The Album Leaf, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, then you'll love album.

One Day Without Shoes

On April 8, 2010, Toms Shoes had a worldwide event "One Day Without Shoes." The event was to help raise awareness about people who walk around everyday with out shoes. It was also done to raise awareness about podoconiosis. Podoconiosis is a disease that forms with bad foot hygiene and not wearing shoes. With all this, a couple of us from ADP decided to join the fun.

We decided we wanted to be a little more extreme so we decided to walk 30 miles barefoot. We woke up at 6:30 a.m. but didn't get started until 8. The walk was grueling and very painful. Walking barefoot that far was a eye opener. Through the walk the little things gave us so much joy from finding a smooth part of the road to walk on to our silly songs we made to buy time. With everything that happened on this journey we gained a new appreciation for shoes. I don't know how they do it day in and day out without shoes.

Show Review: Young and Wreckless

This show feature Facedowns Records newest bands. Reminded me of Solid State Records Young Blood Tour

Onward to Olympas

This was the opening band who played as best they could to 7 people. They played 5 songs from their new Facedown album "This world is not my Home". It reminded me of older AS I Lay Dying stuff. Heavy and tight rifts, with some nice breakdowns. I think they need a few more tours under their belt, but could be headed the same direction as AILD.

A Hope for Home

I really wanted to see this band, their new record "Realis" just came out Tuesday. I liked their first record a lot as well. They had just moved up from Strikefirst Records to Facedown. Their set was intense and beautiful. Reminded me of Thrice and old Underoath. They used atmospheric effects, with over layering keys, and guitar effect. AHFH would be loud, screaming, and almost chaotic, then quickly return to clean guitars, singing, and ambient sounds. They played a powerful set, and all new songs. All the bands except AHFH spoke from the stage, I got the feeling these guys are really shy. I really want to see them on a bigger stage next time.

Hands

The Hands album "Creator" is an incredible album. So I was really antsy to see them play. Then I find out this is their last tour because they breaking up. Hands put on the most dynamic and diversified set of all the bands, I heard what sounded like Beloved, Hot Water Music, Futher Seems Forever, Sights and Sounds, and (heavy) Thrice. Every song and transition sounded so different but complementary to the song. Hands is a must see before they call it a day.

in the Mist of Lions

Their record is heavy, technical, and fast. They were the only metal band of the night, but fit well with the line-up of the other bands. I was hoping for more than what I got at the show. It was a good set, but looked like a rehearsal than "Bringing It". The lead singer did give a challenging message to the crowd about being fake, and giving Christ a bad name, but other than that just a metal set with LOTSSSSSS of leads and solos. They have potential to be better than Impending Doom.

Overal a fun night, and I home in time to watch LOST with my wife.

Marksman (formerly Glasgow)

Sound: Indie type

Compared to: As Cities Burns, old Manchester Orchestra

I enjoyed their set. Their lead guitarist layered my ears with massive amounts of effects. They had a amazing fill-in Drummer "Cannon" who did a great job with Marksman.

Quiet Science

Sound: Rock, Dance, and Loud

Compared to: old Killers, Lovedrug, And Then Their Were None, & Mute Math

PReSON Philips

Sound: Acoustic, Folk, Worship

It was PReSON's album release show. Free download on Come and Live records. It was a great set with a lot of energy. The band faced each other and encouraged the crowd to surround the band. It was a powerful worship set with lots of sing-a-longs.

Cool Hand Luke

Sound: Mark and Piano

This was a very quiet intimate set. Mark played a variety of songs from the Cool Hand Luke library on the piano. He weaved his set with stories and in-depth descriptions of the meaning of his songs. I have seen many incarnations of Cool Hand Luke, and I decided that I like the full band as opposed to the solo piano set.

Overall

The show started out really rockin' but began to slow down towards the end. The crowd was great, no fights, and plenty of insightful conversations.

Demon Hunter - The World is a Thorn

This is Demon Hunters 5th album and its their best one yet. It starts off heavy and fast with loads of guitar solo's. There is so much new about this band and their album. Most noticeable is two new guitarist. The are shredding it up nicely at their new job and not holding back. The title track of this album "The world is a thorn" is faster and heavier than anything they have ever put out. It blew me out of my seat. Not only is this their best album, its loaded with guest musicians. It features guest vocals by Dave Peters of Throwdown in "Feel As Though You Could" and Christian Älvestam ofMiseration (ex-Scar Symmetry) in "Just Breathe". Björn "Speed" Strid of Soilwork in the single "Collapsing". (List is from their Wikipedia page.) The album still has their usual Ballads, and singing parts, but they fit nicely in this new release. Sounds Like Converge, all previous Demon Hunters records combined, and Becoming the Archetype.

Sons of God - The Genesis Prologue EP

First, you can get this Ep for free at Come and live. The first song "Caution" has been my favorite since it came out last year on the free "I am living Vol. 1". It is a very powerful song that just builds and builds. The vocals and the music are so beautiful and a must hear. Reminds me of the bands "Sights and Sounds" and "This will Destroy you". The second song "Doubt" however, I have a little beef with. It is almost a complete rip off of everything "Manchester Orchestra". I love M.O. and was blown away by the similarities in vocals and music. They pull it off very well though. I can't help but Think M.O. every time I hear this song. "Manipulate" is the third and last song on the EP. Its has a Thrice feel, but also sounds like a beefier version of their first song. This band has a lot of dynamics to their sound, and I can't wait for their ful-length that is coming out later this year. This is a must Freebie!

Oh, Sleeper - Son of the Morning

This is Oh, Sleepers second album, their first was “When I Am God”. This newest album is heavier in every aspect of the record. Vocals are more road worn- both screaming and singing. I like the more cohesive use of both vocalist bouncing off of each other. The instrumentation part of the album just feels so much more in your face, like being run over by a very long train (which is not fun.). The album is a concept album based on the final battle between the Devil and God. On the cover you notice a broken Pentagram, it is suppose to represent the devil getting his horns broken off. I like this Jam!

Through much thought, prayer, and quick planning, American Dance Party has decided to launch a special edition shirt, in which 100% of the profits go directly to help the people of Haiti. We have partnered ourselves with "The Cathedral" in Evansville, Indiana, which run Haiti Christian Orphanage, located just outside of Port-Au-Prince. Haiti Christian Orphanage has been in operation for 35 years. Prior to the earthquake, it was home to 54 children, but with such a large increase in orphans, many more are currently seeking refuge there.You Can Help. 100% of what you give will be going directly to Haiti to aid in the relief.

A team will be leaving next week to the orphanage, bringing with them food, water, medical supplies, clothes, basically the essentials needed to preserve life in the area. They will be helping the community as well as the orphanage. Then, in months to come, they will be rebuilding. They will be taking a news team down with them to document the entire trip. We have received news that the orphanage survived the quake with the exception of some minor damage to the building, because of this it is now becoming a safe place for people to come to.

Thrice - Beggar

If you own Thrice’s four EP set The Alchemy Index, and Dustin Kensrue two solo albums, then you know what you are in for. Take all five of those albums smash them together and you get this amazing album. Unfortunately, someone leaked this album way too early so there has been a rush to get the digital copy out. There will be a physical deluxe copy coming later this month. This is by far my favorite Thrice record. I loved Vhessiu, and the EP’s, but this one blew me away just in the advancement in song structure and sound. Dustin’s voice is perfect on this album (don’t expect a lot of screaming), and the musicianship is phenomenal. You will hear so many things sneaked into each song such as jazz rifts and electronic beats. This is in the top ten ‘09 releases for me. The flow of this record is just what you want from an album. Buy it, and recommend it.

So Long Forgotten - Things we can see and things we cannot

These guys are part of the Come and Live roster and sound great. They do have strong similarities to As Cities Burns last two albums and a little mewithoutyou. The lyrics are open and honest, and just feel like your chilling in a living room as their lead singer pours his heart out right in front of you. The music has its heavy moments then goes right back to some clean guitar to settle things for just a bit, then right back in your grill. It has take me several spins to reach my true appreciation for this album, but has earned its spot in a heavy rotation of one of my playlist. You can purchase this album on Noise Trade, which is a great resource for free music, or by donation.

Sleeping Giant - Sons of Thunder

Don’t let the nine tracks fool you. This album is 41 minutes long. This thunderous album definitely covers more musical endeavors than their last record “Dread Champions of Last Days”. It took me several listens to absorb it. This record is heavy, somber, challenging and moving. I like it better than their first. I also like how his vocals are not just screaming, there is also singing, and much better gang vocals. His singing is not trained, but I like it because it feels passionate and personal. There is a surprise vocal by Ryan Clark from Demon Hunter. Each song is different than the last in vocals, music, and power. I feel this is Facedown Records best release this year. Hardcore fans this is a heavy worshipful album, and you need to give it a chance. You will feel challenged to stand with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Warped Tour 2009 Orlando

Warped Tour 2009

This year I went to the Orlando Warped Tour instead of the one I usually go to in St. Pete. It immediately felt cramped and thrown together compared to St. Pete. The line up was slim pickins’, and almost not worth the $47 (thanks Ticket Master fees). I pretty much stayed at the main stage. All the smaller stages had lame line-ups or the good bands were playing the same time as the better bands were playing on main stage. This is my review of it.

Senses Fail - Really tight set, especially since they have the dude from Hotwatermusic on bass, and the guy from Midtown on lead guitar. Buddy did call out a few people for wearing stickers that said sluts, and that was about it. Good time.

Less Than Jake - Big, Loud, and Fun! They blasted through a lot of older songs, and made fun of the opening band(All Time Low), and comparing them to their failed predecessors (Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Sum 41, and NFG). They shot the crowd with water guns, and made fun of the rule about no cursing on stage. Great set.

The Devil Wears Prada - Same as always, loud and heavy- nothing else stood out to me about their set.

Bouncing Souls - They owned it. Their lead singer pretty much stayed in the crowd as he sang each song. They play a lot of old and new songs, They even included a Misfits cover. I loved this set, and sang along. They really know how to put on a great performance at WT.

Underoath - Best show of the day. They always seem to change things up when I see them. This time Chris their keyboardist had his own drum kit, and beat the mess out of it. Numerous times Aaron their drummer literally came out from behind his drum kit to reach his mic stand into the crowd for inspiration to sing along. They played mainly tunes from their last 3 records, and just blew everyone away. They had the largest crowd of the day.

Bad Religion - Best 30 year old punk rock band. Lots of harmony, guitar solos, and pro atheism. They had a great set, and ended my hot 102’ day.

I will be going back to St. Pete next year. However, the orlando lemonade shave ice was the best thing I spent money all day!

The Ember Days - The Ember Days EP

This band is on the new anti-label “Come and Live”. They have a full-length already out with a slightly different line-up called “Your Eyes Light Up” which is an independent release. They are a worship/mission inspired band who have a lot of passion in what they do.
I immediately notice a sound that reminds me of old Straylight Run, a tiny bit of old Sixpence None the Richer, and The Hush Sound. They have alternating lead vocals between the husband/wife duo Jason and Janell Belcher. They harmonize pretty well with each other. It has the same speed and build up as the first Glorious Unseen album. Its not a fast record, but has a feel of a big worship service. On their myspace they say they are trying for a Sigur Ros sound, and an atmospheric affect like Thrice, but I really don’t hear it. The EP is great at creating a soundscape for an emotional listen, but I think they need to give it a little more power. Throughout the EP there are climatic parts with nice descents. They just need to study Sigur Ros and Thrice a little more, and then we have a powerful impressionistic album.
Their lyrics are wonderful, and have an obvious heartfelt compassion behind them. Its like listening to someone pray with everything they have in them. I like it when they singer together as oppose to taking turns. The EP is worth buying, and having your own personal praise and worship time.

Gasoline Heart - Nostalgia Ain’t What It Used To Be

Gasoline Heart is a band that features members from numerous bands who came together to make up a rad rock ‘n’ roll band. This is their third album and their second record label.(The first was Mono vs Stereo and the second is P is for Panda ). They also released “The Kick - 1999- 2005” ( its a collection of old songs and demos from Louis earlier band “The Kick”) A few of the songs on this record will sound familiar to die hard fan’s since they come from old G. H. records, and even The Old Prospector, which was the band that evolved into G.H. when The Kick came to an end.

“Nostalgia” is by far their best one yet. Even though the other two were really good records, it blows them away. This album has such a great flow to it. You don’t find yourself feeling like you are listening to filler songs and bored out of your mind. You get a better sense as to what Louis wants you get from each song because his lyrics seem to be more clear and less cryptic (even though they weren’t that hard to figure out). The music has both a rock ‘n’ roll and bedtime ballad ( I made that up ) sound to it. The sound of the album feels like their first album “You Know Who You Are” but is better and more full with some resonation. You feel like your in the room with G. H. as they jam these songs out. You will hear Eddie Vedder, David Bazan, and even Tom Petty but in a more modern way, not to say that these guys are not modern. Its just a great Rock ‘n’ Roll album. The album begins and ends with the same song “Never Been Worse”. The first is a rockin’, kind of epic version, and the second version is acoustic. If you are a fan you should already have the record. If your on the fence, GET OFF and get the album.

Hey everybody. This is Bump. I am a music nerd. This is just my opinion on music. I get a little frustrated with magazines and other websites on how they review albums. It seems as though they just try too hard to sound artsy and pretentious, and then we still don’t get a true review of the actual album that is the focus. Instead, the emphasis seems to be on the drama that is going on in the band such as a band members drug addiction/meltdown, or some outlandish fact that has nothing to do with the album. What better way to vent my frustration than to just write my own. I really just want to focus on the music. I will try not to rate an album, and I will try to keep it short. Please feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts on the album. I have a thick skin, so agree or disagree it doesn’t hurt my feelings. But, please be nice at first.

Dignan - Theives and Liars Review

Dignan - Cheaters and Thieves

This album was highly recommended to me, so I gave it a spin and was totally caught off guard by what I heard. I was expecting a pop punk band, or an indie hardcore band mainly because of the name. But that was not the case. This record sound like “Explosion in the Sky” with vocals, “Anathallo” without the horns, and “Thrice’s” Alchemy Index Vol. 2 Water. The songs can have a grand sound, and then settle to almost a whisper. The vocals and harmony remind me of some Sigur Ros, Audrye Sessions, and Band of Horses. I honestly felt at the end of listening to this record, that I had listened to a full LP and not an EP.

This band has a simple history and also two prior EP’s called The Guest, and Tangled Woods. What is pretty amazing is these guys and gal are not signed. They are a must see when they come to your town, and a worthy purchase on iTunes and Amazon mp3.

In January 2008 ADP and Faceless Int took a trip to Ecuador to help out working at an orphanage called La Casa de Fe. We spent a lot of time clearing land for new orphanage buildings using machetes. We decided to use the image of the machete in a shirt to raise funds to help this orphanage continue to help these incredible children we met there.
